Faith Identity

Lovett is an inclusively Christian school which invites all—regardless of religious backgrounds they may have—to explore their own beliefs and 信仰fully live out their spiritual convictions. Lovett’s 信仰 identity is grounded in the values of our Episcopal heritage.

Lovett is committed to a 信仰 tradition lived out through five primary elements: shared worship, an emphasis on community life and pastoral care, religious education, spiritual growth, and a commitment to social justice. Three school chaplains lead these efforts with the entire Lovett community—教师, 工作人员, 学生 and families.

All 学生 and 教师 attend a Chapel service by division once per schedule rotation as a commitment to fostering spiritual growth in all people.

The chaplains of all three divisions are ministers from various Christian traditions. Though different in age-appropriate ways, all three chapel services follow the same basic structure.

Every service includes:

• A processional of a cross and torches carried by acolytes

• A call to worship

• Readings from the Old and New Testaments

• Prayers for the community, including the Lord’s Prayer

• 音乐

• A benediction

Both Christian and non-Christian holidays are recognized and celebrated during Chapel. Messages are drawn from biblical texts and often touch upon issues and events arising within and beyond the community. These services provide a distinctive time for school members to come together as a community to reflect on the meaning of the higher values we espouse in our personal and collective lives. All-School Chapel services are held three times each year, gathering our kindergarten through 12th grade 学生, 教师, and 工作人员 for fellowship.

During their time at Lovett, all 学生 are required to take religion classes. The curriculum looks at religious belief as a living, 呼吸, relevant part of what it means to be human. 学生s analyze ancient texts and human behavior in an attempt to more fully understand how people have wrestled, and continue to wrestle, with the divine.

Lovett honors and celebrates all 学生, no matter their background or beliefs. Our chaplains structure religious services in such a way that all participants can feel a part of the experience. 学生s and 教师 of all religious 信仰 traditions have opportunities to speak and share. Religion classes encourage critical thinking and welcome free and open conversation to help all 学生 find their own answers to life’s biggest 问题.

The School recognizes both Christian and non-Christian holidays throughout the academic year, and we welcome opportunities for families, 学生, and teachers to share and educate others regarding their 信仰s and backgrounds.
